Study Shows Vitamin K2 (MK-4) Can Cross the Placenta and Reach Baby During Pregnancy

Researchers found that vitamin K2 in the MK-4 form was able to pass from mother to baby through the placenta and was detected in fetal tissues after maternal administration. The findings suggest that a mother’s vitamin K2 status may play an important role in supporting her baby’s developing nutrient stores during pregnancy.

Pregnancy: Biological effects of fetal ultrasound

A 2021 study by leading European obstetricians found:

  • Ultrasound waves heat up tissue, even in the womb
  • This can cause stress at the cellular level, and in animals, has been shown to impact DNA, immune function, and neurological systems
  • There is no current requirement for practitioners to monitor machine output—even though machine power increased 800% since 1992

Pregnancy: Ultrasounds should be limited to necessity

The American Institute of Ultrasound in Medicine (AIUM) warns that:

  • Studies link ultrasound exposure to low birth weight, delayed speech, and even neurological differences
  • These effects were observed with older, less powerful machines—and today’s machines are up to 8x stronger

Pregnancy: Ultrasound Exposure and Birth Weight

In a groundbreaking 1993 randomized trial, Newnham et al. studied over 2,800 pregnant women in Western Australia to determine if frequent ultrasound scanning affected pregnancy outcomes.

  • Women scanned five times (vs. once) had significantly higher rates of intrauterine growth restriction (IUGR).
  • Babies in the high-scan group were: 35% more likely to have birthweights below the 10th percentile 65% more likely to fall below the 3rd percentile for birthweight
